About Sarah

MeSafe is the brainchild of Dr Sarah Carlick, a respected expert in safeguarding children and adults at risk. 


Sarah started her professional career as a social worker and then as a probation officer, gaining experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. Her experience builds on a rigorous academic background which includes a diploma and degree and in Social Work from Lancaster University UK and a Master of Arts in Arts-Health and a PhD in Sociology (safeguarding) from the University of Central Lancashire. Sarah's academic work was never intended to sit on a shelf but to link theory and evidenced-based practice. Her academic achievements promote radical change and innovation for a universal definition and the adoption of Digital Safeguarding, pioneering new ground in both academia and practice.


Over her career, Sarah has grown successfully as a safeguarding expert and worked expansively regionally, nationally and internationally. She rises to challenges and demonstrates strength and courage to pursue revolutionary work in the field of Digital Safeguarding. Holding an infectious positive outlook and strategic planning skills, Sarah is a fearless agent for the voice of the child, advocating for children and young people as equal partners in the co-design of Digital Safeguarding initiatives. 


Sarah's expresses authenticity in her work. Leading the way for her means being bold, dynamic and grounded in her thoughts and self-belief. She acts as a conduit between children and young people, academic institutions, leading research organisations and public sector agencies, such as local authorities. She specializes in conducting co-design workshops with multi-stakeholders to progress digital child protection systems and impact the landscape of safeguarding. 


Sarah is laser-focused on driving change for children, change for practitioners, change for managers and change for the way services are co-designed and delivery digitally. Creating new digital safeguarding initiatives can transform the unknown. All of this is transforming child protection, augmenting the child's voice and safeguarding our children and young people. 


Sarah is currently writing practice-based handbooks on Digital Safeguarding for practitioners and managers.
